Episodic Slow Slip Hosted by Talc?Bearing Metasomatic Rocks: High Strain Rates and Stress Amplification in a Chemically Reacting Shear Zone

چکیده

Episodic tremor and slow slip (ETS) downdip of the subduction seismogenic zone are poorly understood behaviors seismic cycle. Talc, a common metasomatic mineral at interface, is suggested to host but this hypothesis has not been tested in rock record. We investigate actinolite microstructures from talc-bearing talc-free rocks exhumed depths modern ETS (Pimu'nga/Santa Catalina Island, California). Actinolite deformed by dissolution-reprecipitation creep dislocation ± cataclasis rock. This contrast results stress amplification produced high strain rates surrounding weak talc. hypothesize that higher sample represent episodic slip, while lower intervening aseismic creep. work highlights need consider fluid-mediated chemical change studies deformation seismicity.

Slip at high shear rates.

There are contradictory published data on the behavior of fluid slip at high shear rates. Using three methodologies (molecular dynamics simulations, an analytical theory of slip, and a Navier-Stokes-based calculation) covering a range of fluids (bead-spring liquids, polymer solutions, and ideal gas flows) we show that as shear rate increases, the amount of slip, as measured by the slip length, ...

Fluid pressure and shear zone development over the locked to slow slip region in Cascadia

At subduction zones, the deep seismogenic transition from a frictionally locked to steady sliding interface is thought to primarily reflect changes in rheology and fluid pressure and is generally located offshore. The development of fluid pressures within a seismic low-velocity layer (LVL) remains poorly constrained due to the scarcity of dense, continuous onshore-offshore broadband seismic arr...

Effects of Thermal Diffusion and Radiation on Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Chemically Reacting Fluid Flow Past a Vertical Plate in a Slip Flow Regime

An analysis has been conceded to study the effects of Soret and thermal radiation effects on the magnetohydrodynamic convective flow of a viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting fluid with heat and mass transfer over a plate with time-dependent suction velocity in a slip flow regime in the presence of first-order chemical reaction. The slip conditions at the boundaries for the governin...
